I bet you’re asking, “What is a Dooryard?” Well it is the yard right outside your door, and in our case the entry to our beautiful gardens.
Growing Dooryard Flowers
When we purchased our home, there was no curb appeal, a real blank slate. I dreamt of being surrounded by flowers that would invite more natural living. I started out creating perennial beds that would provide seasonal beauty then added vegetables and herbs.
However, I would never cut any of my flowers to enjoy them inside. Instead I purchased cut flowers at the market weekly for my desk at the office to help brighten my day, as I hate to be “stuck inside”. In 2017 I planted my very first cutting garden; still that summer I did not cut a single flower …has that ever changed now! Every room of our home is filled with cut flowers throughout the growing season.
Fast forward to fall of 2019, when I decided that it was time to turn my passion for gardening into something I could share. I started researching urban farming, and thought I can do this, I WANT to do this.
In 2020, Dooryard Flowers launched!
My love for growing flowers continues to blossom, not only am I expanding my gardens to share, I have been actively attending farmer florist workshops to enhance my growing and floristry skills.
